Well yesterday was a huge adventure. I wish my memory was better. Honestly though it was every bit as frightening as it was beautiful.

Those little black island things were making wicked noises. But believe it or not, walla walla river makes hella noise this time of year too.

River carp reach astounding proportions and apparently contain a mix of factors allowing them to effectively tan their own hides. Dead carp after decomposition look a lot like a rat. Eeeeeeeeek.

Lol at the "men" who opt to go to golf courses rather than face the wild... the high desert has sand traps and all the holes a person could want.

Yesterday evening, i was fishing. . I caught some that were large enough to eat but not the most impressive. Since water was high i made the call to cook what i had and come back later.



Toward the tail end of my campfire, the local coyotes showed up and did an elaborate group howl across the river from me. In the place where i saw the tiny cinnamon colored coyote last year...eek. lol.

I stomped my fire out reallly fast, with a pocket knife in my hand, then got the heck out of there. It is amazing to hear the coyotes, but also very sobering to experience the pack so far from the car.

A person has to decide how afraid they are going to let themselves be, in that kind of situation. From what i can tell, our coyotes are fairly chill and non hostile, but wild animals can change their minds quickly.

What a crazy experience lol.

Today was my review hearing regarding my son. Everyone so behind, going thru endless motions.

Last night I had an accident too.

But before that, I forgot to tell you guys and gals about the Whitman Mission outing last week. I'd been there many times, but never really stopped to look at much there.


This little guy was probably the most interesting wildlife, unfortunately no longer alive. The most fascinating blue green irridescent wasp.


Berries provide a pleasant contrast.


This woodpecker was not shy. He or she kept coming back for more of whatever was by the sidewalk.


Wouldn't it be cool if this was a really old bead?


All was not well on highway 12.


...but the wagon wheels out here lasted longer than my volvo wheels...

The picture doesn't do this massive shroom much justice. Walla Walla has some of the largest mushrooms I've ever seen. This one is almost the size of a dodgeball!

About 10 feet from that mushroom was Mama Owl. She is a monstrously large bird who is extremely old and doesn't enjoy moving.

I was trying to get off the trail to avoid some people and almost walked right into her.

She was still turning her head and blinking the sleep out of her eyes before she realized it was a human. I think she knows my voice because she didn't exactly startle, there must be rules about owls and their personal space relative to our size.

She flew past her husband or son and settled into some deep brush against the tall bank of the lake, on the east side. Her consort didn't fly away, he turned around and watched me for a long time.

It was getting dark already but here he or she is,



Saturday afternoon, a few days before the pictures above, there was moose sign next to the Touchet. Another angler confirmed that we have not one but two moose hanging near Lewis and Clark st park. Yikes.

Unfortunately our cute local moose got kicked in the caboose and sent away to the mountains. Cry lol.

A nearly full-grown moose that had been enjoying the fresh greens and forgotten fruit of Veterans Memorial Golf Course in recent weeks has left for more rugged pastures — but not entirely of her own accord.

On Friday, Department of Fish and Wildlife officials shot a tranquilizer dart into the creature, packed her up and hauled her away to the Blue Mountains.

The moose, in its second year, had become a regular at the 17th hole, where co-manager Mike Early said she was also prone to wander the course and had discovered an old apple tree where she dined on fallen fruit.

Department of Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Brian Fulton said the moose was both healthy and stubborn.

On Thursday, the cow moved to a backyard at a residence east of the course, where she was hazed away by Fish and Wildlife officials.

Then on Friday, Fulton said she was in yet another backyard near Lark Drive and Wilbur Street. But this time she refused to be scared off and stood her ground.

“She just didn’t want to leave,” Fulton said. “She had plenty of opportunity to leave. And nothing was preventing her. She just kind of decided this is where she wanted to stay.”

As a result of her refusal, she was tranquilized, rolled onto a transport tarp, carried into a horse trailer, revived with a reversal drug and transported up to The Blues.

“When she left me, she was wide awake and walking around the horse trailer,” Fulton said. “She was just fine.”

Fulton noted that moose are common in the area, and just two months ago the Department got a report of one running through town in the middle of the night.

How strange, and how sad, that so often the most important and influential people in our lives are the least visible, the least vain.



So focused are they on the mission of giving hope, that they save nothing for themselves. How does one thank a person who vanishes before that can happen? How do we repay the breath of life?



...

Every once in a while,
We run into a person who is so far out of our league, that we don't even know what to say.

Even when it is entirely possible that this fellow human experiences the same struggles, the same terrible loneliness, it is hard to find a way to say Thank You.



But you know who you are.

Tonight was so beautiful. The moon looks about half full. My spouse brought a camera just after Thanksgiving and it truly seems like an upgrade, although the screen on it leaves a bit to be desired and a lot to the imagination lol.

I took a few moon pictures up at the Lake. The craters along the lit centerline were highly visible for some reason. Freaking awesome.

But in spite of the moon and Venus being so pretty tonight, along with Orion saving my life last week by helping me navigate at night, lol, the real gem of the evening was a bizarre icicle that had formed on a picnic shelter way up on the dam.

Apparently while the roof was warm and the snow melted and ran off, there was a very high wind that just so happened to refreeze the water before it could dribble sideways to the ground.

Pioneer park squirrels, when I finally found a group willing to engage in the terrible temperatures.



Pheasants from China are pretty smart... this one knows the word Goodbye and I think it knows Food and Hungry. It responds to Goodbye especially. It would seem that within the last 3 years it lost its mate. I try to visit this one fairly regularly although it felt like torture to leave squirrels peanuts nearby. The caretakers gave the birds some extra food, but it seemed like they weren't very interested. Lettuce etc.... wtf lol.



Home on the range, I can finally breathe... thanks to my grandfather's parka, I am virtually the only person in the park in single digit temperature. Hehehehe or 10 degrees, which is what Google says. It was worth it.


Plus i heard what sounded like a moose stomping when i stopped for potty lol. And a magpie was angry that the other critter was disturbed, haha
