eating the Tail

Post by maggie »

The Ouroboros is seen in some pictures eating her own tail.

Image

Does this image appear closed, finite and self limiting?

This is a two dimensional picture of how spirals of "time"circle
They widen and include greater boundaries.
Memory stores shelled rings of experience gained.

Image

Nothing is lost but its essence has become a scaffolding and center
The essence is Self roiling and moving living and changing
we circle around our Self becoming, always becoming, human being.

The spiral shell expands and human is a verb, not noun.
The spiral spins out the shell we choose to carry onward.
The whole is ours but yet it becomes
We may claim no end and no beginning as our heritage.
We remember our whole life into its form.

Image

The spiral spins out the shell carried onward.

Image

Image

Known by our multiple faces,
layer on layer the beingness of human spiraling trajectory just IS.

Image

Human is everything
It is so inclusive being one who eats her tail.

A sublime longing and melancholy is of time
the on and on river passing by always.
Taking everything in, the ouruborous eats her tail in a sublime ingestion and digestion.

She takes herself into herself enlarging the realm of time.

Image

Holding within this imagery of being in linear moments strung together,
she incorporates her past in the now.

Image

She remedies the ancestry by her love extending through a feeling of time.

Image

From the sense of passing away, she pulls recall,
The she is digesting herself down to her toes.
A "having past by" urgency may cut as an edge of loss...nostalgia.passion

Image

Endings precede each new morning.
Forget something on purpose.

[* THE NATURE OF THE PSYCHE
IT'S HUMAN EXPRESSION

Chapter 11

THE UNIVERSE AND THE PSYCHE

Session 800...

"Personal grudges would not build up, so that men or women so fear further hurts that they attempt to hide from life or relationships, or shy away from contact with other. It is not virtuous to count your failings. Self-conscious righteousness can be a very narrow road. If each of you understood and perceived the graceful integrity of your own individuality, just as you try to perceive the beauty of all other natural creatures, then you would allow your own creativity greater reign. There is order in all elements of nature, and you are a part of it."

"The greater sweep of the seasons represents the reaches of your soul. You will not attain spirituality by turning your eyes away from nature, or by trying to disentangle yourself from it. You will not "glimpse eternal life" by attempting to deny the life that you have now - for that life is your own unique path, and provides its own clues for you to follow."

"All That Is vibrates with desire. The denial of desire will bring you only listlessness. Those who deny desire are the most smitten by it. Each of your lives are miniature and yet gigantic episodes, mortal and immortal at once, providing experiences that you form meaningfully, opening up dimensions of reality available to no one else, for no one can view existence from your standpoint. No one can be you but you. There are communications at other levels, but your experience of existence is completely original, to be treasured."*]

We really might let go of what is not our pleasure?
And create more room for eternal value?

Dear Maggie, you would love Da Vinci's sketch of the wolf/dog steering the boat. I have a book or two about him, and one had an inside cover art on two pages showing that one.

The wolf sits in a small boat ferrying what looks to be a tree of life and or knowledge. He studies a compass before him while steering the ship's wheel like Set guiding the boat of his master through the void of chaos.

A ray of light connects the wolf to an imperial eagle on the far right who stands upon a globe directing the lesser material sphere.

If the snake could not eat her mistakes there would be a huge messy universe, right?

Ooh. P.s.

Allegory of Boat, Wolf, and Eagle, sails toward a globe surmounted by a crowned eagle. The drawing, which is at Windsor, was probably made for the wedding of Giuliano de Medici to Philiberta of Savoy. It is another example of Leonardo's taste for the fantastic, which he never lost despite the strong rational core of his temperament.

The extraodinary symbolism of the picture might also refers to the wolf as the Church, which is in charge of the boat with its living tree and compass. Does it suggest that the wolf - a rather negative image for the Church - is given too much direction over the life of man? The Pope and German Emperor were rivals for power at this time, and in Italy the great families and political leaders were divided between two. The shinning eagle may suggest that the Emperor is a leading light in the world. And why is the Church sailing towards the land and what is, presumably, the German Empire? Either way, it is not difficult to second guess where Leonardo's own sympathies lay.
Brotherhood falls asunder at the touch of fire!
He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.

Thanks...I am looking at the drawing and it is great because it evokes my own story.
What is the story WE choose to tell? That is my focus based on the hypothesis that this IS a dream we are experiencing.
That seems like a fun idea.

The wolf is able to navigate.
Nose to the wind.
There are so many noble verses to being a wolf in the wold.
At the same time, there is a constraint to being the wolf.
Swimming like a dolphin, no not that ability.
One must build a boat to navigate waters and currents and tides.
A compass seems mandatory.
Am I imprisoned by circumstance that I use this boat and this tool?
This is what the wolf in his wold thinks about at night under the so distant galaxies.

And the eagle feels on top of the whirling world. It sits up so proud at a dominion and territory.
Flight and powerful grasp. One hampers the other a bit. Fly free as the wind
Or
Best to carry objects only so far.
How far can this eagle carry this world without tiring and settling down ?
It has landed and it is earthbound now by its grasping onto the world.
The eagle holds on tightly so the world won't spin him about.
Who is more imprisoned?
