It is not easy divorcing one's religious experience from the support of current wars and politics, etc. Kudos to those who retain joy in spite of unfortunate times. By unfortunate I mean the events 'originating' with 9/11 and all that it was used to justify.
That said, Gods & Goddesses etc aside, a good way to evaluate one's religious preference is looking sincerely at whether that belief system truly helps as many people as possible (not only winning them over but materially helping needy people & ecosystems) ....
Does your faith hijack your sense of justice? Does it give you an easy way out of respecting and aiding all people? Does it suck up the energy you could devote to charity and activism? Or does it support humanitarian work and refrain from merely gloating in wealth and complacency?
Loaded questions, sure. But honest ones.
I can't help but notice how purposely convoluted and tedious many current belief systems (BS wink) truly are. That energy is often better spent on a specific real life issue, God help us, even conspiracy theories that happen to be creative hold more water than certain repetitive, evasive, and sometimes abusive, belief systems.
