This article and images reflects so well the deep sorrow felt inside.

"Among the Lakota there existed several Warrior Societies. From these societies, prominent men were chosen to serve in the a
Aki'cita, a tribal police force, or guard unit, if you will. They also were responsible for the order of the annual Buffalo hunt.
But the main function of these societies was for the training and development of fighting skills and the warrior ethos. The cultivation of moral character was also an important aspect of the Societies."

He stands, quiet leaning against the War Pony, looking out over the camp with a faraway stare, seeing the past five months of who and what he is now like a movie playing in his mind. I didn’t understand, couldn’t understand until I got here, the phrases “there is no time” and “that’s old news”. I didn’t see the world the way it is here, all too safe and secure in my white-bread existence.

Dear Christine, was curious if you have seen M Night Shyamalan 's film "The Lady in the Water".

The introduction is quite sobering in light of what is happening in America. Narrator talks about how people on land used to listen to guides sent from the people in the water.

Of course on some level the film is metaphorical, but the writer says a lot about the magical nature of the message, the messenger, the recipient and of course, the hero who stands up to the forces of darkness.

Very proud of you & Phil for going to the camps... very sad I did not see them. What a sobering event.

Brotherhood falls asunder at the touch of fire!
He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.
