Existing in Both the Phenomenal and Noumenal Worlds

Post by Naga_Fireball »

Seattle Times is mostly co opted by big money, and so the grace and mercy is overshadowed often by corporate fauxjoy and depressing cynicism.

However, they hosted an article this week written by a very well educated young philosopher. Given, his views are horribly tainted by modern "living", it was not easy to appreciate the whole thing, but he touched on what he said was philosophy's most difficult problem:

Are we slaves to cause and effect, the phenomenal universe, where Chance is King,

Or

Are we divine beings gifted with the ability to sense meaning, absolutely, and given that sense, able to both recognize and give meaning to the world we share?

More simply, are we we slaves of fate or creators of fate?

...

The author went on to say, the Universe may well be a responsive sort of thing, a thing existing in a form so magical and raw, it literally waits for intelligence to touch it and tell it where to go.

from Wikipedia:

The triple spiral or triskele is a Celtic and pre-Celtic symbol found on Irish Mesolithic and Neolithic sites, including inside the Newgrange passage tomb, on the entrance stone, and on some of the curbstones surrounding the mound.

This particular feature is rendered with high fidelity in each instance at Newgrange and would suggest a non-tripartite interpretation. One possible interpretation could be the union of male and female (the two entwined spirals) to engender an offspring though how this relates to its setting in a tomb begs explanation.

This fits *very very well* with theories of some sort of universal matrix.

You guys know I'm not huge into the matrix philosophy, because of the movies being so clumsy lol. But now that I realize the films served also to illuminate for us, the different paths:

Blue pill would be, surrendering to the physical world around us and reducing ourselves in order to receive our guiding authority from the phenomenal laws of nature,

Or

Red pill, seeing ourselves as co creators of reality empowered to change it at its most fundamental expressed levels.

If we stop focusing so hard on "the meaning of life", as life can end pretty quickly, I think it's healthier to focus on the time that we have, and doing as much as possible perhaps to lessen the burden of a phenomenal existence and bring it closer, under our mental control and authority, claiming the world so to speak.

I think it is a powerful thing, to say I Am Here,
This Is My World, I protect it, Go Away unless you're helping.

P.p.s. For those who believe in reincarnation, the dual existence of physical and noumenal explains a lot, it would seem that there is a level of existence or energy from which spirits do reach. We endure the physical in order to learn patience and skill, but are freed back into the great spiritual repository. In this sense it could be argued that Being is the highest reality, not the framework around said Being.
Brotherhood falls asunder at the touch of fire!
He finds his fellow guilty of a skin
Not coloured like his own, and having power
To enforce the wrong, for such a worthy cause
Dooms and devotes him as his lawful prey.
~William Cowper
